Geographic Location

Taipei city is located in northern Taiwan，in the central Taipei basin，and is surrounded by Taipei County.Taipei is Taiwan's biggest city and its political，economic，cultural，and education center.It was divided into 12 districts: CKS，Datong，Zhongshan，Sungshan，Ta'an，Wanhua，Xinyi，Shihlin，Peitou，Neihu，Nankang and Wenshan.The city covers an area of272 square kilometers and has a population of over 2.63 million people.

Climate Characteristics

Taipei has a sub-tropical monsoon climate.The average annual temperature is 22.4℃，and annual rainfall averages over 2，100 millimeters.The rainy season stretches from July to September，during which the island receives two-fifths of its total annual precipitation.Summer lasts from the end of May to September，and the weather is hot and humid，with average temperatures ranging from 25.2℃-28.6℃.October and November is the fall season，when temperatures drop to about22.2℃-24.2℃.Cold winter weather occurs from December to February，and temperatures during this period are about 15.3℃-18.5℃.The winter is rainy and cold because it is affected by the northeastmonsoon，but most days are frost free.

Night Markets and Snacks

Taipeihas many famous night markets，with the variety of tastes and prices to entice local residents and tourists.The Shihlin Night Market is Taipei's largest night market.Typical snacks include Jumbo Fried Chicken，Wok-fried Squid，Bun in a Bun，Herbal Stew of Ribs，and the Oyster Noodles beside the Cicheng Palace.The entire street block next to the Taiwan Normal University is the Shida Night Market.All kinds of stalls and stores are densely packed in the countless narrow lanes.There are specialty coffee shops，internet cafés，fashion boutiques，home supply outlets，artistic restaurants，and many renowned snack eateries.The representative snacks are Heated Pot-Stewed Snacks，Pan Friend Bun，Crispy and Tender Stinky Tofu，and Niu Mowang Beefsteak.The Raohe Street Night Market is the very first night market for tourism in Taipei City; as such，it is well planned and organized.All stalls and stores are put together on two sides of a 600-meter street，and strolling down this lane is relaxing and pleasant.The representative snacks are Pork Feet Noodle String and Beef Noodle Soup，along with Indian and Pakistani Food.The Linjiang Street Night Market，which is next to the Taipei World Trade Center，is the most friendly night market in central Taipei.It stretches from Jilong Road along Lijiang Street，down all the way to Tonghua Street.All kinds of food stall sand shops are located in this more than one kilometer long crossshaped street block.The representative snacks are Teppanyaki，Stuffed Bun，Barbeque Sausage，and Soybean Milk.The Huaxi Street Night Market，also internationally known as the“Snake Alley”，is actually a snack center frequently visited by local Taipei citizens.Huaxi Street's buildings are constructed in Chinese palace art deco style.Many restaurants offering tasty food are hidden here.Many other excellent restaurants can be found on neighboring Guangzhou and Sanshui Streets.You can sample traditional，authentic Taiwanese delicacies and desserts，as well as good basic street seafood.The representative snacks are Tan Tsu Noodles，Boned Goose，Squid Thick Soup，Crushed Ice，and Sweet Soup.

Leisure and Shopping

Taipei has many products to tempt tourists.Examples are Yingko Ceramics，Sheng Dazhuang brushes and famous Shihlin knives，and face models，all of which are very popular tourist souvenirs.The magnificent Taipei City，Hsimenting，Eastern，Tienmu，Shihlin，Mansion，and other notable market areas are all located close to one another.The Hsimenting shopping area is the first choice of most local residents and tourists; however，Taipei's Underground Street has excellent department stores selling clothing，electronics，and food.This and many other large malls all have ample parking.Taipei's streets are full of cafés，tea houses，specialty shops，Karaoke bars，and pubs.The city's brilliant neon lights liven up the night scene and make it even more beautiful.

Tourism Resources

The Danshui and Keelung Rivers flow through Taipei.Tatun and Chihsing Mountains in the north form the Yangmingshan Park.This park is right in Taipei's backyard，changes during the seasons，and provides the city's inhabitants with an excellent environment to study the local natural ecology and appreciate nature conservation.The February 28^th Peace Park，Botanical Gardens，and Taipei Ta-An Forest Park are green oasises within Taipei and provide both city-dwellers and tourists with ideal recreation place sand also serve as venues for cultural and arts events.The Musha Mountain in Southern District is the perfect place to hike and get close to nature.In addition，as the cultural center of Taiwan Province，Taipei has an impressive number of museums，art galleries，memorials，temples and monuments.The Palace Museum outside the Wai Shuang Hsi houses Taiwan's major art treasures.Indigenous cultural events are staged at the Formosan Aborigines Shun Yi Museum.The Taipei Fine Arts Museum，Children's Recreation Center，Dalong Cave Security Palace，Confucius Temple，and Hsin Tien Temple are all well worth visiting.

夜市美食

臺北市有許多著名的夜市，多樣的口味與平民化的價格，大受當?shù)鼐用衽c觀光客的喜愛。如整個臺北市最大的夜市--士林夜市，代表性的美食有大雞排、生炒花枝、大餅包小餅、藥燉排骨及慈誠宮旁的蚵仔面線等。師大夜市位于師范大學附近的整個街區(qū)，各式各樣的攤位及商店密集在你幾乎不能分辨出差別的無數(shù)小巷。有個性的咖啡店、網(wǎng)吧、時裝店、家庭式外賣、藝術(shù)餐館和很多著名的美食餐廳。代表性的美食有加熱鹵味、水煎包、香酥嫩臭豆腐、牛魔王牛排等。饒河街夜市在臺北市是最初發(fā)展旅游業(yè)的夜市，并進行過精心策劃和組織。夜市所有攤位及商店都集中在一個600米長的街道的兩邊，漫步街頭，讓人輕松愉快。代表性的美食有豬腳面線、牛肉面和印度、巴基斯坦美食等。毗鄰臺北市世界貿(mào)易中心的臨江街夜市，是臺北市心臟地區(qū)最有活力的夜市。它橫跨基隆路沿漓江街一路下來到通化街。各種美食攤位及商店幾乎都可以在這條超過1千米長的街道上找到。代表性的美食有鐵板燒、割包、烤香腸和豆?jié){等。華西街夜市，在國際上也被稱為“蛇巷”，實際上是一個臺北當?shù)厥忻窠?jīng)常光顧的美食中心，有很多中國宮殿式藝術(shù)風格的美食餐館隱藏在這里。在廣州街與三水街周邊可以發(fā)現(xiàn)許多有名的飯館。你也可以像在凹凸不平的海鮮街一樣體驗傳統(tǒng)正宗的臺灣小吃和甜品。代表性的美食有擔仔面、剝骨鵝肉、魷魚羹、刨冰和甜湯等。

淡水河、基隆河蜿蜒穿過臺北市。北邊囊括大屯山系、七星山系而形成的陽明山公園，不但是自然保育的生態(tài)教室，更是大臺北的后花園，四季各有不同風情韻致。坐落在臺北市中心的二二八和平公園、植物園、大安森林公園，是典型的城市綠洲，加上周邊人文、藝術(shù)活動的頻繁舉行，是都市人休閑游憩的理想場所。南區(qū)的木柵山區(qū)，則是登山健行，親近大自然的好去處。另外，作為臺灣省文化中心的臺北市，擁有為數(shù)可觀的博物館、美術(shù)館、紀念館、廟宇、古跡等。外雙溪的故宮博物院是島內(nèi)外首屈一指的藝術(shù)寶庫。對街而立的順益臺灣原住民博物館，展現(xiàn)原住民文化樣貌;圓山周邊的臺北市立美術(shù)館、臺北市立兒童育樂中心、大龍峒保安宮、臺北孔廟、行天宮，都刻畫著濃厚的人文活動軌跡。
