浙江省博物館始建于1929年，原名“西湖博物館”，位于西湖孤山南麓，風(fēng)景如畫，景色宜人。

Zhejiang provincial Museum，formerly known as “The West Lake Museum”，was built in 1929.Located at the south foot of the Solidary hill，it affords a picturesque lake view.

浙江省博物館舊館址的一部分為清朝（1644-1911）皇帝行宮遺址和江南著名藏書樓文瀾閣。1993年，浙江省博物館改擴(kuò)建工程竣工，新館占地面積20400平方米。博物館內(nèi)有8個(gè)展館（歷史文物館、青瓷館、書畫館、錢幣館、工藝館、禮品館、明清家具館和精品館）和兩個(gè)藝術(shù)館（呂霞光藝術(shù)館和常書鴻美術(shù)館）。

part of the former site of Zhejiang provincial Museum is the temporary imperial palace in the Qing Dynasty (1644-1911)and the famous Wenlan pavilion (Library of Literary Upsurge)in the south of the Yangtze River.After reconstruction and expansion in 1993，the brand-new museum，occupying 20，400m，has eight halls exhibiting Cultural Relics，Celadon Wares，paintings and Calligraphy，Coins，Arts and Crafts，Souvenirs，F(xiàn)urniture of Ming and Qing Dynasties，and Objects of Lasting Interest respectively，as well as two new art galleries，namely，Art Gallery of Lv Xiaguang and Art Gallery of Chang Shuhong.

館舍建筑以富有江南地域特色的單體建筑和連廊組合而成，形成了“園中館、館中園”的獨(dú)特格局，樓間亭榭，以長(zhǎng)廊逶迤相連，掩映于湖光山色間，成為天堂杭州一處耀眼的文化新景點(diǎn)。

The museum buildings are laid out in a pattern of “buildings in the garden and garden among the buildings”with corridors connecting pavilions and towers，a typical construction style in the south of Yangtze River.Blessed with a serene lake in front and a green hill at the back，this lakeside museum has become a new cultural addition to hangzhou.

浙江省博物館是浙江省內(nèi)最大的集收藏、陳列、研究于一體的綜合性人文科學(xué)博物館。館藏文物十萬(wàn)余件。其中河姆渡文化的陶器、漆器、木器、骨器和象牙制品，良渚文化的玉器和絲織品，越國(guó)的青銅器，越窯、龍泉窯、南宋官窯等窯口的青瓷，會(huì)稽鏡和湖州鏡，明清浙籍書畫家的作品等，均為遺跡聞名的瑰寶。

Devoted to the collection，study and display of various objects，Zhejiang provincial Museum is the most comprehensive on the humanity studies.Of over 100，000treasured cultural relics，the world-famous ones are pottery and lacquer wares，wooden，bone and ivory objects dating from the hemudu Culture (5200B.C.-4500B.C.)，jade articles and silk fabrics from the Liangzhu Culture，bronzewares from the State of Yue in the Warring States period (475B.C.-221B.C.)，celadon wares from the Yue Kiln，Longquan Kiln and the Guan Kiln (Imperial Kiln of the Southern Song Dynasty (1127-1279))，the Guiji Mirror and the huzhou Mirror as well as works of the calligraphers and artists of Zhejiang province in the Ming and Qing Dynasties.

浙江省博物館精品館不定期地推出從國(guó)內(nèi)外引進(jìn)的各種高檔次的專題展覽。此外，位于棲霞嶺的黃賓虹紀(jì)念室、位于龍游路的沙孟海紀(jì)念室、位于館區(qū)的常書鴻美術(shù)館和呂霞光藝術(shù)館，形成了豐富多彩的名人館會(huì)系列。而1999年底新落成開館的浙江西湖美術(shù)館，又為浙江省博物館拓展了新的天地。

At present，the Museum irregularly holds a variety of special exhibitions from home and abroad in the Exhibition hall of Lasting Objects.Apart from the above exhibitions，the Museum has the Memorial hall of huang Binhong in Xixia Ridge，the Memorial hall of Sha Menghai in Longyou Road.In addition，the Museums of Chang Shuhong and Lu Xiaguang form a rich and colourful series of the famous artists gallery.In addition，Zhejiang West Lake Gallery set up in 1999has taken another course for its further development.

近年來(lái)，通過(guò)赴德國(guó)、法國(guó)、日本、新加坡等國(guó)的文物展覽的成功舉辦，以及大型學(xué)術(shù)刊物《東方博物》、《浙江七千年》等一系列文物圖書的編輯出版，浙江省博物館的影響日漸擴(kuò)大，已成為在海內(nèi)外享有較高知名度的博物館之一。

In recent years，the Museum has not only held a series of international academic seminars and several exhibitions in Germany，F(xiàn)rance，Japan and Singapore，etc.，but also published many books on cultural relics，including the academic journal Oriental Museology and 7，000Years of Zhejiang.The Museum now ranks among the noted museums both at home and abroad.
