形態(tài)：大型水鳥，體長72-87cm。通體黑色，頭頸具紫綠色光澤，兩肩和翅具青銅色光彩，嘴角和喉囊黃綠色，眼后下方白色。繁殖期頸及頭飾以白色絲狀羽，兩脅具白色斑塊。亞成鳥深褐色，下體污白。

虹膜綠色；上嘴黑色，下嘴灰白色；腳黑色。

分布：中國多數(shù)省份有分布。在保護區(qū)屬較常見的旅鳥和夏候鳥。

習(xí)性：常成群棲息于水邊巖石或水中，呈垂直站立姿勢。在水中游泳時身體下沉較多，頸向上伸直。以各種魚類為食，主要通過潛水捕食。
