一只貓頭鷹坐在一棵蘋果樹的樹杈上，樹上結(jié)滿了成熟的果子，看上去已經(jīng)熟得快掉下來了。
An owl sits on the branch of an apple tree, full of ripe apples that look ready to drop to the ground.

“你知道人們能算出蘋果掉到地面有多快嗎？”貓頭鷹問樹下的老鼠。
““Did you know that people can calculate how fast the apple drops to Earth?” says the owl to a mouse below.
“我對這個不感興趣。我餓了，想吃東西?！崩鲜蠡卮鸬馈?/p>
‘i am not interested in that, I am hungry and want food,” says the mouse.
我餓了！
I am hungry!
這是科學(xué)！
This is science!
“唉，你應(yīng)該感興趣才對，這是科學(xué)。人們探索大自然是如何工作的，你可以從中學(xué)到很多東西?！?/p>
“人們根本不知道大自然是如何工作的?！?/p>
“忙碌的小老鼠，你有點太傲慢了吧？難道你認為你比被稱作‘智人’的人類還聰明嗎？”
‘well you should be interested, this is science, and you can learn a lot from what people find out about how nature really works.”
“People have no idea how nature works.”
“You busy little mouse, you are quite arrogant! Do you think you know more than people who are known as Homo sapiens?”
“我懂得不多，但我至少不會假裝能用某種被叫作‘?dāng)?shù)學(xué)’的魔術(shù)去解釋一切?！?/p>
“但這個公式不是魔術(shù)，它可以讓我們?nèi)ダ斫獠⑶沂褂嬎阕兊镁_。”
‘I do not know more, but at least I do not pretend that I can explain everything with some magic called mathematics.”
“But this formula is no magic, it allows us to understand and to be precise.”

Some magic called mathematics
拔一根羽毛丟下來……
Pulls out a feather and drops it...
“你有羽毛嗎？”老鼠問貓頭鷹。
“當(dāng)然，我是鳥啊?！必堫^鷹生氣地瞪著眼說。
“丟一根下來?！崩鲜蠼ㄗh。
貓頭鷹拔了一根羽毛，丟了下來。
風(fēng)吹動著羽毛，大約一分鐘后，都快要看不見了，它才落到了地面上。
‘Do you have a feather?” says the mouse to the owl.
“Of course, I am a bird!” says the owl glaring down.
“Just drop one,” suggests the mouse.
The owl pulls out a feather, and drops it.
The wind carries it around, and about one minute later, nearly out of sight, it falls onto the ground.
“這用你們智人的公式怎么說？”
“公式這時候不管用，但那是因為風(fēng)的緣故?！?貓頭鷹說。
“那你為什么不在公式里加上風(fēng)？”
“我不知道怎么做。你知道嗎？”
“我一點也不知道。但假如人類也一樣不知道，他們就應(yīng)該被稱為無知的人！”老鼠回答。
“這么說可不太好。”
‘so, what about the formula from your Homo sapiens?”
“It would not have worked then, but that is because of the wind,” says the owl.
“So why don’t you add wind to the formula?”“I don’t know how to do that, do you?”
“I have no idea. But if people do not know either, they should be called Homo non sapiens!”replies the mouse.
“That’s not a very nice thing to say.”
無知的人！
Homo non sapiens!
蘋果能飛嗎？
Can apples fly?
“蘋果能飛嗎？”老鼠問。
“別開玩笑了。你知道，蘋果沒有翅膀。鳥類才有翅膀，像我這樣?！?/p>
‘can apples fly?”
“Stop joking. You know apples do not have wings. Birds have wings like I do.”
“好了，我已經(jīng)聽膩了蘋果落地的故事，我想知道的是，蘋果一開始是怎么長在那里的！”
……這僅僅是開始！……
‘well, I am tired of hearing about the apple falling down, I want to know how the apple got up there in the first place!”
