立法的目的條文常見有以下表達法：

歸納起來，表示立法目的（“為了……”）的英語釋文有：to +v.，in order to＋v.，with a view to＋-ing，in the view to＋v.，以及for the purpose（s）of。其中purpose所表示之目的僅一項者用單數(shù)，“目的”之內(nèi)涵不止一項，但譯者主觀上（notionally）當作一個完整的目的，則仍可用單數(shù)“purpose”；這時，各項內(nèi)涵在文字上截然可分，如在文字上介詞短語不是“of A，B and C”而是“of A，of B and of C”，則應(yīng)使用復(fù)數(shù)“for the purposes”。
